Only a week prior to the expected season seven premiere, AMC has declared that The Walking Dead will returning for a season eight.

Not just that, but that 8th season will start with the series’ 100th show, and 16 new shows of Talking Dead when it debuts later next season…even if it’ll be returning without which beloved character (or heroes?) we’ll be burning off when season seven finally gets there.

AMC leader Charlie Collier said, emulating Jeffrey Dean Morgan’s Negan. “Just what a joy to partner with Robert Kirkman, Scott M. Gimple plus some of the hardest-working people in tv set to bring The Walking Dead to the followers. And, most significant, because of those followers for inhaling and exhaling life into this exceptional series right along the way.”

The Walking Dead returns next Sunday, Oct. 23 at 9 p.m., followed by a 90-minute live episode of Talking Dead, broadcast from the Hollywood Forever Cemetery, featuring host Chris Hardwick and the cast members from Negan’s line up.
